Home/War/Home explores impacts of combat on soldiers, children, and families. Featuring the work of Steve Maxner, who served as a combat medic in Vietnam, and Danny Nguyen, a US military veteran who came to Northampton in 1979 as a 7-year-old Vietnamese refugee. Woven through the installation are recorded audio pieces crafted from interviews with area veterans and their families.

Artful Bonds: Veterans and their families
An Exhibition


New England Visionary Artists Museum / Anchor House for Artists

Featuring the work of area soldiers, veterans, and their family members, Artful Bonds sheds light on the connections of family through art. Many of the pieces in this exhibit were made through engagement with Warriors Art Room in Easthampton, MA.

Waves of Healing

Visit these locations throughout Northampton to see artwork from the creative arts therapy program at the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System on the Northampton campus in Leeds and from veterans residing on the campus at the Soldier On residential community. These 30+ pieces offer a lens into the creative capacity of our veterans, all of whom are doing the important work of introspection and emotional healing -- just 'a stone's throw' from downtown Northampton.

A poet walks into the room. Then waits. Once the silence comes, he begins. Through poetry and humor, physicality and rage, the poet takes the ancient tale of the Trojan War and brings it crashing down into the middle of the modern world.

Mollye Maxner, co-director of A.P.E. and daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, will facilitate a panel discussion with local spouses and children of veterans. Join us for an open and honest dialogue about the powerful relationship between the challenges and gifts of being spouses and children of military veterans.



A Stone's Throw festival
is presented through a partnership between Available Potential Enterprises, Ltd. (A.P.E.) and Central Hampshire Veteran Services, which provides support to area military veterans and their family members living in 11 cities and towns in Hampshire County in receiving benefits and help with food and housing and medical and employment assistance.

This Exhibition is made possible in part through support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, The Northampton Arts Council, and ARPA.
