SANCTUARY
February 5 - 18, 2024
Visual art exhibition and performance
We seek sanctuary as a place to be ourselves, to pray, to release, to question, to rebel, to meditate, to mend, to make, to forgive, to grow, to rest
PERFORMANCE - Friday, February 16th, 7pm, A.P.E. Gallery
Join us for an evening of physical theater, as part of SANCTUARY. The evening will include three duets: Winters Dream, Practice Makes, and Action Adventure Dream. These three stories told through movement, gesture, and both live and recorded music, bring the audience on a heart-opening journey of family, friendship, loss, and hope.
Performances are FREE; Reservations recommended
Performers include Sharon Carty, Kirsten Kapteyn, Gabe Levey, Elizabeth Rose, K. Paul M.
SHARON CARTY is an artist who embraces impulse and process and shares with her audience a sense of purpose. She has been making quilts since 1968, including her process of creating grief quilts: a process with intention of keeping the spirit of the person in the cloth, lighting a candle before we cut the clothes for their new use.
JOYCE MAXNER lived in Northampton for two decades and now lives on Martha’s Vineyard. Illuminating the beauty in our world, she works primarily in watercolor and needle felting, the latter of which is featured in SANCTUARY.
K. PAUL M. is a North Hatfield artist who challenges traditional ideas of sanctuary with pen, paint, woodburning, collage, and choreography.
